Ability to link text in editor without using html block inserts

It would be really nice and save a lot of time to be able to add hyperlinks to text within a paragraph without resorting to HTML blocks. The good old basic highlight text and insert the link with a choice of target attribute for the link. I find it strange CK editor does not have this option.
This would be especially useful for the knowledgebase to open links in new tabs for the user when they are working through a step by step tutorial.
